Parents naturally hope their children will succeed in choosing an honorable career and will excel beyond what they achieved. Parents who hope their children will achieve fame and fortune become discouraged when they settle for an ordinary lifestyle. It’s important that parents’ hope fits each child’s personality and talent.
From early childhood a mother was determined her son would take over the family business after finishing college from a prestigious university of her choice. This mother’s ambitions did not take into consideration what her son planned to do with his life. To her dismay, he chose a career completely different from her choice.
As we entrust our children into God’s care, we can say with the Psalmist, “I am confident that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and be encouraged.” Be certain that God knows what is right and good for you and your children. Constantly place your hope in him.
Because of our love for you we were ready to share with
you not only the Good News from God but even our own lives…We encouraged you,
we comforted you, and we kept urging you to live the kind of life that pleases God,
who calls you to share in his own Kingdom and glory.

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the
purposes of his heart through all generations.
~Psalm 33:11 New International Version
