Life is composed of habits that can promote a healthy lifestyle, while addictions promote physical and emotional suffering. A bad habit can be a stumbling block to one’s walk with God by blocking the knowledge and wisdom on how to live life as God intended.
The internet is a significant tool for personal and professional use but can become addictive and a stumbling block. Romans 14:13 warns, “Make up your mind not to erect stumbling blocks in your own life or anyone else’s.” Anyone causing a person to stumble is in danger of severe consequences.
Bad habits are like darkness, as Proverbs 4:18-19 points out. “The path of the righteous is like the gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” The light of the world is Jesus, who gives power to move beyond the pitfall of any habit.
____________
If we claim that we experience a shared life with [Christ]
and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our
teeth – we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God
himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as
the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin.
