Destiny Equals Purpose

As a prospective patient, I was being interviewed by a hospital technician taking me through the initial steps prior to being diagnosed. Our conversation moved to an interesting story as we waited for the doctor to arrive. His story revealed the transitions his life had taken on the way to becoming a medical technician.

An interesting part of the conversation included what he understood to be his purpose for being here on earth. Seldom are we privileged to share another’s thoughts of their  personal reason for living. Yet it was an honor to observe that coming to terms with his destiny had given him a sense of eagerness for greeting each new day.

Destiny is often associated with a choice for a career. Jesus was a carpenter, but his destiny and purpose was to be the Messiah for all mankind. Have you seriously thought about your purpose for living? Jesus said, “I have come to seek and save the lost.” A godly purpose for living is permitting yourself to be found and saved by Jesus.

Jesus said, “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

Become a Partner with God

Each day we set aside time for work, meals, entertainment, and sleep. To be spiritually set apart by God is to be sanctified, the process of becoming holy. In Genesis God sanctified the Sabbath day for rest and worship. The nation of Israel was sanctified as God's people to be a model of His love, mercy and forgiveness.

The people were to be partners with God in redeeming all people.  Remember these words from Jesus? "Go to all people everywhere and make them my disciples; baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Teach them everything I taught you." Sanctification continues throughout life.

The process of sanctification includes maturing personally and spiritually by permitting the Holy Spirit to prepare you for the purpose of God, who declares, "I am Jehovah-M’Kaddesh, the Lord who sanctifies you." He has the power to save you, to sanctify you and make you holy, for he is holy. He calls you and sets you apart because he loves you.

__________

[Paul wrote:] He chose me to be a servant of Christ Jesus for the Gentiles, and to do the work of a priest in the service of his good news. God did this so that the Holy Spirit could make the Gentiles into a holy offering, pleasing to him.

~Romans 15:16 Contemporary English Version

But now since you have been set free from sin and have become willing slaves of God, you have your benefit, resulting in sanctification [being made holy and set apart for God’s purpose], and the outcome of this is eternal life.

~Romans 6:22 Amplified Bible

A Creative Commission

To be creative is to cooperate with God the Creator. The word creative usually applies to someone who is inventive, artistic, original, ingenious, clever and skilled. But it can include a person who just makes the day work as it should, who gets the job done and makes things turn out OK by juggling several roles.

God commanded that we should search the limits of our creative possibilities. I heard a story about a man who studied rattlesnakes for fifty years and wrote two books on the subject. Although this man’s passion for snakes may give you the creeps, he saw them as God’s creation to be studied, to learn from, to be respected, for their venom can be deadly.

Jesus commissioned his disciples to go into all the world to teach, preach and baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He promised them his presence, powers, and provision so they could witness for him. Jesus commanded each of us to use our creativity for his purpose. He promised his presence would be with us constantly.
