Strong passions are fueled by powerful visions of possibilities, and if those passions are not for selfish gain, God blesses our efforts. The apostle Paul was captured by passion to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire Roman Empire. Because of this passion, he refused to be overpowered by the forces of evil.
Paul was proud of those who responded to the gospel message. They became the framework for the churches he established. He accredited everything to Jesus, who empowered him with patience even while in prison where he faithfully redeemed the time by writing letters of encouragement to those infant churches he had established.
God’s amazing love permits us to use our days to accomplish whatever our selfish passions can devise. However, it must pain God to observe us using our time for what is fleeting or transitory. Because of his grace and mercy, he gives us opportunities to change directions and make our lives count for what is eternal.
Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as
unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
~Ephesians 5:15-16 Berean Study Bible
Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word.
Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is
good. Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.
~Proverbs 16:1-3 The Message
