Everyone believes in something or someone to some extent. Children, if nurtured adequately, believe in their parents, and trust their decisions. Trust is a precursor to hope, so if children are encouraged to believe in Santa Claus, then hope for personal gifts on Christmas morning will not be a disappointment.
With maturity, it becomes apparent that everything desired is not reasonable, yet hope can be directed toward what is possible. Hope cannot be dependent on what isn’t grounded in reality. The Israelites hoped to occupy the Promised Land because their hope was connected to God's plan. Hope propels us toward what is possible.
Human desires do not always result in fulfillment, but hope anchored in Jesus Christ is a reality that does not disappoint. Hope is an anchor that holds fast when the storms of life try to capsize and drown your objectives and plans. So may the Lord God, the source of all hope, fill you with joy and peace. Merry Christmas!

… So we who have found safety with [God] are greatly
encouraged to hold firmly to the hope placed before us. We have this hope as an
anchor for our lives. It is safe and sure.
