What Gives Indifference Its Power?

What inspires an emotional state of indifference to settle in and become permanent? It could be a relationship that has lost its appeal. People are perceptive enough to know that a relationship is in trouble and insightful enough to correct problems before a crisis becomes full-blown. Procrastination, however, prevents corrective action from being taken.

A college student realized his marriage was in trouble. The university’s counseling center offered free counseling, but he just couldn’t make the call. He was too ashamed to admit his marriage was a failure. As time progressed, indifference to his wife ended what had begun with so much promise.

Consider some “what if’s”. What if they had not permitted procrastination to evolve into indifference? What if they had permitted God to help them repent of procrastination and indifference and to forgive each other’s neglect? God is willing to give you a clean heart and a fresh start when you reach out to him in faith. Why not do that now?

An Effective Strategy for Change

Determining to make significant changes can be impulsive, with little consideration given for what’s required to make change successful. Changing behaviors or thought patterns demands concentration as well as an effective strategy. People know when their life is out of balance and headed for trouble.

The Hollywood director John Huston knew his tobacco addiction would culminate in emphysema and eventually the inability to do the work he loved. Yet he refused to stop smoking, believing that pleasure now is worth the pain and suffering to be experienced later. Toward the end of his life, an oxygen tank and a wheelchair became his constant companions.

Resolving to change can be painful and inconvenient but will build a bridge to a better life. Listen carefully to the warning signals conveyed to you from God himself. “Be still and quiet and know He is God Almighty and personally loves you.” The Holy Spirit is always at work to help you know and do what is best.

Faith's Priority ~ 2020 Vision of Renewal with God

We are born with potential gifts and talents God will use for the furtherance and maintenance of his world and church. Yet it is possible to lose your way by submitting to the attractions encountered in society. The beginning of a new year can offer you the chance to renew what God meant for you to be.

This could mean resetting faith’s priorities as the redeemed person for whom Jesus died on the cross. It might mean coming to Jesus for the first time, accepting him as Lord and Savior and truly repenting of all the sins that are burdening you down and of which only you know. 

Thank God for the New Year where you can make a new start with faith’s priorities rather than live under the guise of a few resolutions that you too easily can discard. Faith’s priorities reflect what you can become with the help and presence of God the Father, Jesus the Son of God and the Holy Spirit. Praise God! Happy New Year!
